Our country and our region are facing a major talent shortage in the cybersecurity industry. At CyberUp, we know something has to be done and it will take the collective effort of all three pathways (higher education, boot camps, and apprenticeships) to close the cybersecurity skills gap. The chart accounts for all 4,524 current openings in the St. Louis region and where we are currently finding new talent for companies to hire.
For context and where we got our percentages let us explain.
- According to Cybersecurity Ventures, only 3% of college students are graduating from college with a degree in computer and information sciences.
- According to CyberUp, we estimate 3% of entry level applicants participate in introductory boot camps or a general certification class as a way to gain entry into the industry.
- Our goal in 2019 is to place 50 apprentices which means we account for right at 1% of the regional hiring.
