St. Louis, MO – Aug 20, 2020. CyberUp is teaming up with DoD, DHS CISA, and private sector entities to host a full month of cybersecurity awareness activities in October, for National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM). NCSAM was created as a collaborative effort between government and private industry to ensure every American has the resources they need to stay safer and more secure online.
To bring NCSAM closer to St. Louis, CyberUp and many of their partners/supporters have teamed up to take the month one step further. The overall message is “Do Your Part. #BeCyberSmart.” Beyond providing awareness training CyberUp also wants to help cultivate the cybersecurity talent pipeline. CyberUp has planned events that encourage learning for industry professionals, exploration of career paths for youth, and a fundraiser to connect them both.
Given the uncertainty of COVID-19 and when everything will reopen in the region, CyberUp’s month of activities will all be delivered virtually. October 3rd will be the kick-off event geared towards parents with a focus on how to keep your kids safe online. The weekly themes of the month will then be “If you Connect It, Protect it”, “Securing Devices at Home and Work”, “Securing Internet-Connected Devices in Healthcare”, and “The Future of Connected Devices”.
October 16th will test your skills by competing in the adult Capture the Flag (CTF) event for all levels. This competition will focus on cryptography, steganography, reverse engineering, forensics, programming, traffic analysis, exploitation, OSINT, and more. The difficulty of the challenges will range from beginner level to expert level. Teams will consist of 1 to no more than 4 people.
And to finish off the month, on Oct 24th, CyberUp is hosting their annual fundraiser. This year will be an all-day video game tournament. The tournament will go live on Facebook at high noon and will end at midnight. They will have 3 sessions each with a different game to play. Kicking off the day with Rocket League, Call of Duty: Warzone, and then Fortnite.
“NCSAM is like CyberUp’s Super Bowl!” CyberUp Executive Director, Tony Bryan explains. “It is a month full of exciting events and opportunities for the region to learn more about the industry and to get engaged with some of the work we do. Our team and our partners have created a little something for everyone so no matter the skill level you can support.”
CyberUp’s mission is to cultivate the cybersecurity pipeline by training the workforce of today and inspiring the workforce of tomorrow. To learn more visit wecyberup.org, or call us at 314-764-5419.
